In this article you are going to learn how article marketing can be used to increase your websites rank in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) and drive you all the free traffic you could ever want.
I wish I could say this was a quick process and you could get hundreds of people to your site in a few hours, but I can't. This process takes time and work to get the most out of it,but those who stick with it, never regret it.
I am going to assume that you already have some knowledge of SEO and you understand keyword research. If you don't I suggest you research deeper in to those subjects before continuing on.
The very first thing you want to do is figure out what keywords you want your site to rank for. It is best to target the "long tail" if you are just starting out or have a new site. Try to target a keyword phrase of 3 or more words that indicate a buying intent. In General one word key phrases get a lot of traffic but, can take a long time to rank for and you want traffic as soon as possible, so target the log tail.
Next you will want to create a page on your site using that keyword in the Title and H1 tags along with a few variations of the keyword in the body text as well. You want to keep your keyword density somewhere between 2 and 5 percent and you should be fine.
Next, you want to create an article that is related to the page your are trying to get ranked in some way. Try and keep your article short and to the point, generally 300 - 500 words is all you will need.
Fourth, not absolutely required, but highly recommended, you need to rewrite that article twice. This may seem like a lot of work now, but overall it will save you lots of time and effort. I like to go through my article and rewrite each paragraph so that it is unique but still says the same thing. This will allow you to randomly select a set of paragraphs and have the overall article still convey the same idea.
Next, you want to create a compelling authors resource box that has a strong call to action for the reader to click through to your site. But here is where the magic happens. You are allowed 2-3 links to whatever pages you want in your resource box. You want the anchor text of those links to be the keyword you are trying to get your site to rank for. It is a good idea to vary the anchor text to include just the keyword, the keyword and supporting words, and it is even a good idea to throw in some junk words as well. This keeps you pages and links from getting filtered out by the search engines and keeps your site from being sandboxed or de-indexed.
The last thing you want to do is get that article out to as many article directories and sites that will take them. This will provide the page you are trying to get ranked in the SERP's with lots of relevant backlinks raising its importance and position in the SERP's.
As a final thought, I want to leave you with this bit of knowledge. The reason you want to spin your article's like I discussed earlier, is so you don't fall prey to the Google duplicate content filter, posting duplicate on the web will only hurt you if you do it on your own site, but if you post the same article across the web without spinning it first you run the risk of having the links either discounted or worst nor counted at all, making all your hard work null and void.
