Productivity Builders for Article Writers

By Chris Turner

If your line of work involves writing articles, you're one of many people in such a situation. While writing can be an extremely enjoyable and rewarding process, many are at a loss for what to write about.

One can often feel overworked and at a loss for ideas after writing numerous articles, and coming up with creative ideas can often be a challenge.

Here are five tips that I'd like to share with you, all of which should aid you in your article writing efforts, regardless of your motivation.

People enjoy reading articles with lists, and writing them is one of the easier ways to write an easy read. This way, you'll know the items that made your list (i.e. a top ten list) and you'll have an easy time writing a paragraph or two about each.

Telling a story may also be an effective means of writing articles. Don't be shy about interjecting your own personal experiences, in addition to your personality. People love reading stories in general, and they're generally more entertaining than articles that are purely factual. A little personality never hurts.

If I have a number of articles to churn out in one sitting, I'll usually try to set short term goals. I'll race against the clock in the hopes of beating the time I've allocated to the task. This keeps me focused with an end in sight.

Reward yourself when you're done with your articles. This way, the purpose of your work may be less abstract in the short run. Many people forget why they're writing to begin with, and they fail to see this.

My last suggestion may sound a little unconventional, but I can assure you that it's had a major impact on my output levels. Work on your typing speeds, as faster typing will allow you to do more work in less time.
