I worked for a customer service company a few years back. I had an officemate that lived in a subdivision less than a kilometer away from work. Beside the subdivision is the golf course where we often play in the weekends. It was always a welcome sight to see my officemate arrive at work in a cute golf cart. I can imagine the savings he makes driving that thing to work. He would always look cool as he parks his cab in the mall parking lot beside our office after work.
Maybe owning a cart for myself will prove to be economical. Renting a golf cart every time I need one is costing me quite a bit. I can even see it as a means of transportation in a retirement community. I remember my friend in the mall parking lot with his cart. Moving around that huge facility and looking for a place to park was never a problem to him and his rig.
I can opt for a new one or probably be comfortable in a used cart. I will be paying a lot more for a brand new cart, but then again, I will have the full factory warranty. I can also be taught as to its proper care and maintenance from day one.
A new one would probably cost me around $5000 to $10000 depending on its features and accessories. The more add-ons, the higher the price goes. I can be extremely frugal and strip away the bare necessities and Id probably get a new one for under $5000, but I dont think Id be comfortable in that.
On the other hand, a used cart can really go easy on my pocket. I can look for a local individual party but I am not familiar with golf mechanics so that might not be a great idea. I might be able to find a local golf cart dealer that can provide me some type of repair service deal that comes with a used cab.
A used carts price may vary widely depending on the model and its features. It will also depend on the machines shape and condition. I believe I will be able to find one that is still sound, but I think having a trusted mechanic take a look at it before I actually make a final decision is in order.
Another consideration would be going for a gas or an electric powered cab. I heard that an electric golf cart is easier to maintain but I will be changing batteries every few years or so and that would cost me around $500 every time. My officemate told me that after some time, maintenance of both types works out pretty much the same so it really wouldn't matter so much.
