Article marketing has become very popular as an SEO (search engine optimization) marketing method under the recent Web 2.0 phase of ecommerce on the Internet.

The rising popularity of article marketing however has brought about some negative effects on online content however, as the rapid distribution of online articles via social networks and viral campaigns combined with individuals drafting poor-quality articles as a quick way of achieving promotion, has created a vast online vault of essentially valueless content.

To write original value making content is a more effective way of promoting your website but it does of course require some increased efforts in researching and creating the content. You are, however, more likely to increase visitors to your site if you have something original. You will also benefit from more links to your site if others consider your content is worth linking to.

Search engine rankings basically refer to the order in which web pages are listed in results when you do a search in the search engine. Search engines like Google and Yahoo rank pages that it considers are most relevant and important to the searched keyword.

How do you get your website listed in Google? Well getting a page listed is quite easy - you just point 1 link to it from an existing website. But getting your website listed in Google's index is one thing, getting it to rank well is completely another. This the major goal of anyone involved in trying to promote an application on the world wide web, since Google, for the moment anyway, is probably the single-most important entity on the www. The main rule to consider is that while there are lots of guidelines and common-sense rules, SEO is not a hard science and anyone who trys to tell you it is, and can achieve you a number #1 position for $2500 in a short period are generally not to be trusted.

If you think about the fact that Google reportedly tweaked its search engine algorithm 400 times in 2007 should clearly tell you that the Google index is a moving target. Also, we know that there are about 100 criteria used in the Google ranking algorithm and that this is changing all the time as Google seek to supply you with the most useful results and cut away all the spam and duplicated data.

The practise of SEO involves influencing the rank in which web-pages get returned when you search for a keyword or phrase in search engines. The higher a page is ranked, the more likely it is that that page will generate a larger number of visitors. For corporate websites, this increased traffic generally means an increase in sales, and the practise of article marketing has been proven to be very effective in achieving this.
